CAR MODIFIED WITH NITROUS OXIDE SYSTEM

My car in on the Trim Line, getting built as we speak. I hope to have delivery mid June.

In preparation I wanted to make sure I had a cover for it. I have a full driveway and have designated a spot just for my new 5.0, but unfortunately I cannot park it inside. Thus I needed a 365 day a year outdoor cover that will repel rain, snow, bird droppings, etc and yet fight off trapping of moisture.

JPC got their 2011 GT Tuesday evening from the dealership. From there it went directly back to the shop and right onto the dyno - what a great way to break in a new vehicle. Stock they were able to push right at 350 RWHP on on the Mustang. From there they concentrated their time on the rear end - 4.56:1 gears, 31 spline axles with C-clip eliminators, and a spool. Looking around the shop to see what else they could put on the 'Stang, they came across an old Bassani 3" X-pipe and 2.5" race mufflers - while retaining the stock catalytic converters. "We couldn't even get a K&N filter in it, the local places were out of them," said Godfrey.

With the new-found bolt-ons in place, they managed to pick up some power, now netting 372hp to the rear wheels. "We even had a few aluminum driveshafts lying around that we tried to swap in, but the new transmission design on the Mustang's are shorter, making the stock driveshafts longer than normal," Godfrey explained. The last modifications were a set of upper and lower control arms and a 100 shot fogger nitrous kit. At the end of the day they managed to net a 430hp goal on the chassis dyno.

The engineers at Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) recently did some track testing of the new 2011 Shelby GT500 at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). This was to test the cars ultimate limits at one of the worlds most technical and grueling road courses.

Vehicle Dynamics engineer Gene Martindale pilots the 2011 Shelby GT500 coupe equipped with the new aluminum 550hp, 5.4-liter engine and the optional SVT Performance Package. With a lap time of 2:58.48, the 2011 Shelby GT500 with the SVT Performance Package is over eight seconds a lap faster around VIR than the 2010 model. That's a lap time comparable to six-figure supercars!

My take away; the car is awesome and lives up to the hype on road and track. I was right for opting not to pay for the brembo upgrade. for street use the stock brakes will be 95% same performance. And if i ever decide to upgrade the power with a supercharger, i will likely need a true 6 piston front brake upgrade.

This 2011 Mustang 5.0 completes the loop for me.

Well, it's a form of heritage, isn't it? When you see the "5.0" badge on the fender of a Mustang, you feel something, right? This can't be just some marketing exercise that has been churned through focus groups, consumer clinics and demographic researchers in order to get people to sign up for 72 monthly payments.

So why be cynical? When we heard about the 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0, we couldn't help but remember the 1979 Ford Mustang 5.0, when getting a serious 5.0-liter V8 under the hood of a Mustang was a big deal, and then all those 5.0s sold in the Mustang between 1982 and 1993.

So never mind the cynical talk. Aren't these 5.0 things wicked-ass cool?!

That's a gain of 36 RWHP and 23 RWTQ! That's not bad but we're still working on some other changes in the tune to gain more horsepower and torque.
