While ROUSH® is still in production on the last of the 2010 model year Mustangs, the exciting news is that we have also officially begun building on the 2011 chassis with the new 5.0L engine. The first cars will be transformed into ROUSH® Mustangs with the addition of a Sport™, Stage 1™ or Stage 2™ package, and these should start showing up on the dealer lots in the near future.

He notes that it was under poor conditions and no burn out.

The test is not valid in my eyes. Read carefully about the tires. Camaro had summers, Mustang had all seasons.

Hal Feder had a letter on FMCDealer.com today about the Super Duty parts shortage on 4x4 models... he was ensuring every one knew this was a parts shortage issue and not a quality issue... at the bottom of he page of notes and issues, he mentioned that the Mustang was ok to ship... I read the letter and took the Mustang note as a comment, not an announcement.

Additionally, just to put some questions to rest - the Mustangs are shipping now...

This is a stock Mustang that is on a rail car and heading to Washington State... retail units from the verification system has units scheduled to be built on the week of May 3rd and May 10th. Those units should arrive roughly four weeks after construction depending on the distance to ship.

This was the 1st race Vaughn Gitten JR won with his new "5.0" Mustang

Apparently the green light has been given for V6 Mustangs. the original source that claimed there was a hold, proclaimed today that the V6 units are now ok to ship.

Also the thread this proclamation was made was started by a forum member who's mother's V6 was being delivered to her today/tomorrow. Link Here

I hope my V8 order "previews" tomorrow in the system. But i am not getting my hopes up. The term "Preview" in Ford's system basically means, it is showing up in the system right before the assembly begins. But my dealer mentioned this "is not gospel".

My wait continues...

Dearborn -- Air transportation disruptions caused by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland will temporarily idle two local Ford Motor Co. factories.

The AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, a joint venture between Ford and Japan's Mazda Motor Corp., was closed Wednesday and remains closed today because of a temporary electronic parts shortage. Ford's Wayne Assembly Plant will be closed next week, said Ford spokeswoman Marcey Evans, explaining that both closures are due to "parts shortages because of the volcanic ash situation."

This is a follow up post to my 1st one regarding Whipple's upcoming supercharger kit for the 2011 Mustang GT 5.0.

There is a lot of skepticism of the stock rods or stock transmission being able to handle 600hp crank and the accompanying mountain of torque. Lethal Performance broke the news and are not new to hard core drag racing builds.

Here is their reply to some common concerns:

"The bottom end can't handle it" or " the trans is toast at that hp level". But how many failures of the tranny or motor do you hear about with that system? Slim to none is the answer as Ford did the same durability testing with that system as they are doing with this one. If it didn't pass the test then Ford nor Whipple would offer it. That's the last thing that both of those companies wants to deal with so if it's being offered it's because they are comfortable with the results they've seen.

Not the dealer I ordered from, but still a good sign nonetheless. I have been scouring the web for reliable info. Came across a forum member who works at a dealership who had this to say as of today:

Today, April 20, 9:10am

"Our first '11 (V6 coupe) got its ETA bumped from 4/23 to 4/29, so a week like you. Our first '11 GT500 is showing an ETA of 5/11, and that has not changed. Still waiting for an ETA for our first '11 GT (so far, only one has been pulled and serialized)."

Today, April 20, 5:43pm
"Nice! The '11 GT I mentioned above just got scheduled today. It will be built next week (the week of 4/26) and has an ETA of 5/14 to our dealership. It's for a friend of mine, so I've been tracking it diligently every day."

Monday, April 19, 2010

Which would suck. If i get any solid data I will share.
My gut says this is a minor delay (if any) to make sure everything is 100% going out of the factory.

What I have been talking about in other msg boards and amongst friends is now in the public domain.  Magazines and other bloggers are finally realizing for $32k you are able to get the same performance as the V8 BMW M3.

I will let other's debate the qualitative reasons to buy either. But I am sticking to the quantitative, or the actual numbers. Bottom line the 2011 Mustang at $32k is like a V8 M3 with free gas for 10 yrs! (The Mustang is $28,000 cheaper. so I am simply ball-parking $28k/$3k(annual gas) = 9.3 years of free gas.)

"We've got some exclusive info about the all new Whipple Supercharger kits for the 2011 5.0L Mustang GT. How about 600hp? That's right. The new 5.0L 4V motor for the 2011 GT rated at 412hp will soon have the ability to make 600hp. Thanks to our good friends at Whipple for making this possible with their W140ax 2.3L supercharger kit. The kit for the 2011 GT will be offered with a 5" air-to-water intercooler and massive "Crusher" style inlet system which was designed to minimize restriction and maximize airflow. The Crusher inlet for the 5.0L is almost identical in size to what Whipple currently offers for their 2.9L GT500 kit. The 5.0L should make around 600hp @ 7psi which is the maximum boost level recommended for the stock bottom end. Kits will be available in black or polished as well as complete kits with fuel system and tuning or tuner kits without fuel system and tuning. Be sure to stay posted as Lethal Performance will indeed be getting one of the first kits made to sport on our soon to be built Grabber Blue 2011 GT."

I had email communication with Eric De Doncker, team member on The Marc VDS Racing Team. I asked for more information regarding the engine and if it will compete naturally aspirated.

"The engine fitted in the new Mustang Marc VDS GT3 is the Cammer engine 5.0 stroke to 5.3....this is the engine fitted in the Ford GT GT1.......it is naturally aspirated.

Surprising outcome that i don't think would happen in real life by a real customer paying for the car using real money. What man would choose the Genesis Coupe over either three, Challenger, Camaro, or Mustang? Especially the new 2011 V6 mustang?

One thing not mentioned here is Hyundai's not able to hold up their residual value in the used car market, or even on trade in. I know they claim the highest % resale value, but not too sure where they are getting their data. I personally would not risk owning a new Hyundai for fear of getting hit on depreciation. But no doubt that Hyundai is making great products today.

I propose a slightly different test. How about the $22k 305hp/31mpg, rear wheel drive 2011 V6 Mustang, vs the 2011 2.0T Sonata sedan.  I believe most would opt for the Mustang.

This is no magazine review. The production value looks tv commercial ready.

The signal to start building and shipping 2011 Mustangs has been given. Only a few more days/weeks before you'll see them in owners hands.

I cannot wait for mine!

"Ford Motor Company has issued the "OK TO BUY"... Shipping of the 2011 Mustang has begun!!! Retail orders will begin to preview and schedule immediately!

If you have an order placed with me - I will be emailing you as soon as the order status changes. I would expect to see the vehicles preview now OR next week.

Their RSC (Reflective Sound Cancellation) technology works as advertised. Zero drone + more flow. The only drawback i have seen is the weight. RSC uses chambers to cancel out the Drone frequency using an opposite frequency. This adds weight to the muffler and can sometime weigh as much or a little more than the OEM muffler.

This footage is from the Houston Autoshow Jan 27-31, 2010. I launched this blog after I already had seen it and forgot about it. but wanted to share. not much action. but info on improvements, mykey, etc

Camaro and Challenger were left in the dust to fight for 2nd place.

This is so good, I think it deserves it's own post. You can basically swap the engine sounds and no one could tell the difference.

To all Ford Marketing execs, if you read/watch this post, it would be pretty cool to see a tv commercial that superimposes the new 5.0 into the old Bullitt chase scene with Steve McQueen.

Link to great video on NADA

Interviews Tom Barnes, Vehicle Engineering Manager, and Steve Ling, Car Marketing Manager.

"But horsepower doesn't tell the whole story. This V-8 is a major evolutionary step for Ford, perhaps the best gasoline burner the company has ever produced. It twists the tach needle quickly and without vibration but with a roar so menacing it makes the Camaro SS sound like a pickup truck. Detroit has long made cars that leap off the line in a burst and then flame out shortly thereafter. Ford has tuned the V-8's throttle to be remarkably gentle and progressive, as if road racers in ballet shoes were the final editors of the software. Dare we say it? This engine is too good for this car."

Video now up

Excerpts:

"The Mustang ran away from its portlier pursuers in all of our handling tests, circling the Figure-8 course in just 24.7 sec at 0.77 g, fully a half-second ahead of the Camaro and a second quicker than the big Dodge. Lateral grip measured at a legitimate sports car level of 0.97 g. Here the more interesting statistic may be the Dodge's ability to match the lighter, fatter-tired Camaro at 0.92 g each."

editor-at-large Arthur St. Antoine, concluding "the Mustang feels like a scalpel; the Camaro a hammer."

"This V-8 burbles in a slightly higher register than the other two, but on the boil it mimics the soundtrack to Frank Bullitt's car exactly." "An engine note worthy of conversion to a ring tone." "The Mustang feels like a real car -- mature, adult, grown up, but still fun and sexy." "Snickety gearbox -- is this a Honda?! Love the positive action and short throws." "Very nice. Lots of stick, well-balanced grip. Just world's more fun than the similarly fast but far more massive Chevy."

I really appreciate you all for visiting and learning about the new 2011 Mustang.  I started this as a mere convenience exercise for myself, to store and watch all the videos and technical reviews I am searching/finding on the web, while I wait for delivery of my 2011 5.0.

Looks like others are also finding this blog useful too.

Thx

"The Mustang has seen a welcome 57% increase in sales. Excitement is high for Mustang right now both due to pre-orders for the new 2011 models that include the more powerful 3.7 liter and 5.0 liter engines. But 2010 Mustangs are moving as well with incentives as high as $3000 to move them out."

Press Release

Congrats to Ford and Mike Harrison's team who are responsible for this new 5.0 masterpiece!  As well as the equally impressive, prob best damn sports car bargain in the world at $22k, 2011 V6 Mustang.

Looks like good times!  From their First Drive article, Read more...

"One huge change from 4.6 to 5.0: the live rear axle no longer hops uncontrollably during burnouts. Finally, you can do a burnout in a Mustang without feeling like you've broken it."

Thursday, April 1, 2010

sounds better than any stock 350z or 370z I have owned or heard.

And you can have this V6 for $22k new! $25 really well equipped. 31 mpg sounding like that!?!

Why would anyone opt for some $24k 35mpg Hyundai Sonata 2.0T, when you can have rear wheel drive, 31 MPG and all this automotive porn in a 2011 Mustang?

http://bit.ly/2011MustangOrderGuide

Hope you guys find this useful.

Slowest time i have seen thus far. but one of the higher quality videos. No talking.

I'll share two i created from Mustang clips.

Choose "Download Pre-Recorded Ringtone"

1. 2011 Mustang GT ripping around a race track. (no music, no reporters, no bullshit)

2. 2004 SVT Cobra "Terminator"
http://tube2tone.com/87n8jhVO784

But you can do this with any YouTube clip.  Compatible with almost any phone format.

Just the Facts:

  • New federal law will require 2016 model-year vehicles to meet fuel-efficiency targets of 35.5 miles per gallon combined for cars and trucks.
  • The action is expected to add about $1,000 to the cost of a new vehicle, according to some industry observers.
  • New requirements reflect an increase of nearly 10 mpg over current standards.

The 2011 Mustang GT comes from the factory with a gas saving intended feature, where if you are not driving hard, it will force you from 1st gear into 4th gear.  I was somewhat worried before I placed my order, as this would defeat the purpose of owning a 412hp+ Mustang V8.  I am not aware what the ecu or transmission is using as the criteria to initiate this 1-4 skip, speed, rpm, both?  However, I rather not pay a gas guzzler tax, and deal with a $15 fuse relay mod, to defeat this tech.  So thank you Ford for producing the car this way and saving us enthusiasts $1,300 extra on gas guzzler tax :)

And it seems the feature will be very unobtrusive and defeatable, as not 1 reporter has even mentioned the feature in their recent onslaught of media drives.  I had to go to Matt Farah's YouTube post and ask him directly in the comments section for his take on the skip shift feature.  Here is the question and response:

  • 50StangsBlogspotcom Hey Matt F,

I forgot to ask you. no one reporter has commented on the 1 to 4th gear, skip shift technology Ford included with the Mustang? Were you romping on it so hard it never forced you from 1st to 4th gear?

  • TheSmokingTire @50StangsBlogspotcom Haha, that's it exactly. I didn't even know the car had that until I hit a bit of traffic on the way home after hitting the canyons. My Corvette came with the 1 to 4 thing as well, and i got a $14 bypass fuse to kill that feature, which I would do as well in the mustang. I was driving it so hard that I didn't even know it had that feature though, very annoying, but fortunately they make cheap ways to fix that.

I hope it isnt a April fools prank.  Because this type of machine would give Porsche, BMW, and Corvettes nightmares at the GT Class races.

Watch your rear views!  I don't think the story is likely, and if the hwy patrol were getting a sports car interceptor, i would believe they would choose the V6 for fuel economy.
